So I was looking over my news feed and came across this little story that caught my eye. It involves the laws of parental right in 31 states and blows my mind . How in the world could we ever think to allow this ? This must be some sick joke of some kind a convicted rapist has parental rights . I thought no way could this be so I looked . In the code I found Rape listed as a reason for loss of parental rights, but only if you had raped the child . I'm glad to see that its not just Ohio I would hate to be the last state with this still on the books .
The worst part is that it took some crack pot locking three girls in his basement for a couple decades to bring this to lite here . Even the state of Texas who has laws that hold women responsible for their own rape, and uses pictures,and clothing from the victim as evidence against them in some cases protects the child, and mother from the rapist . This man Ariel Castro if he lived would have had parental rights to his victims kids . His family may also have a case for visitation should they wish to pursue . What kind of a place do we live that this is permitted, or is even allowed on the books ? This is about kids more than the victim or the perpetrator . What message do we send to the child who finds out years from now they where not only conceived out of a crime but raised by the person who committed it .
How do we teach this child right from wrong being raised in this environment ? If this is a child support issue we can fix laws better than this I'm sure .
We already have way too many cases where this stuff goes unprosecuted . We seem to be raising a generation where rape is expected almost like a party game . Now we will let the Idiot committing the crime claim the child as well ? Do you think the rapist should be able to claim the child on his taxes too ? This will not be a reason for the criminal to grow up and become more responsible . This will be a way to inflict torture on the victim for the next 18 years nothing more nothing less.
